Vaco by Highspring is seeking an Accountant / Senior Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and help build scalable financial processes for a defense technology client.

The role is hybrid in Austin, Texas, with remote candidates considered; candidates should be available during Central Time business hours. Initial 3-month term with potential extension and possible conversion to full-time.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting experience.

Accountant or Senior Accountant

Our client, a defense technology company, is seeking an Accountant / Senior Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and help build scalable financial processes in a growing organization.

This role is hybrid in Austin, Texas. Remote candidates will be considered; however, candidates should be available during Central Time business hours. This role has an initial duration of approximately 3 months, with potential for extension and possible conversion to a full-time position.

Responsibilities:

• Support daily accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
• Prepare and assist with customer and contract-related invoicing processes
• Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis
• Perform payroll reconciliations and support related accounting processes
• Support expense management, approval workflows, and internal controls
• Assist with milestone-based billing and revenue-related documentation
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and process documentation
• Strengthen accounting controls, workflows, and reporting processes as the organization grows
• Partner with stakeholders across the business to support operational and financial objectives

Requirements:

• 3+ years of accounting experience
• Strong experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and month-end close activities
• Experience with contract billing, customer invoicing, or project-based billing environments
• Familiarity with government contracting, regulatory compliance, or similar highly regulated industries preferred
• Experience with accounting systems and strong Excel skills; QuickBooks experience preferred
• Ability to operate independently, adapt to changing priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced growth environment
