Job summary

CFS near Groton, CT seeks an Interim Finance Consultant (CFO/Controller level) to lead the year-end close, oversee full-cycle accounting, and support audits. This fully onsite role targets nonprofit environments and requires strong accounting leadership.

You will prepare financial reports for executive leadership and the board, handle state reporting, ensure regulatory compliance, and identify process improvements to maintain operational continuity during the engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
• Experience in CFO/Controller-level roles.
• Strong full-cycle accounting and year-end close experience.
• Non-profit accounting experience.
• Experience managing or supporting annual financial statement audits.
• State reporting and regulatory compliance experience.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with executive leadership and Boards.
• Ability to quickly assess organizational needs and make an impact in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead year-end close and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
• Manage full-cycle accounting: GL oversight, reconciliations, statements, month-end close.
• Partner with external auditors; assist with audit prep and requests.
• Prepare and present financial reports and audit results to leadership and the Board.
• Assist with state reporting and regulatory compliance.
• Provide hands-on financial leadership to maintain continuity during the engagement.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls.
