Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Interim HR & People Operations Manager for an established nonprofit organization dedicated to creating meaningful social impact through its programs and initiatives.

This is a fully remote, temporary opportunity offering the flexibility to work from home while supporting a collaborative, geographically distributed team.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Interim HR & People Operations Manager will play a critical role in maintaining essential human resources, employee support, and organizational operations during an important staffing transition. Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, this individual will independently oversee payroll coordination, benefits administration, employee onboarding and offboarding, compliance, and administrative systems for a geographically distributed team. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands‑on HR professional to make an immediate impact while contributing to a meaningful international nonprofit mission.

PERKS
  • Competitive Compensation: Earn $39–$41 per hour, with potential adjustments based on qualifications and experience.
  • Fully Remote Flexibility: Enjoy the convenience of working from home while collaborating with a dedicated international nonprofit team.
  • Meaningful Mission: Support an organization committed to advancing human rights, social responsibility, and equitable development worldwide.
  • Professional Impact: Work directly with nonprofit leadership while taking ownership of essential HR and organizational operations.
  • Potential for Growth: Benefit from an interim opportunity with the possibility of assignment extension and limited potential for permanent employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Independently manage daily HR functions, including employee onboarding and offboarding, benefits administration, leave tracking, personnel records, and employee inquiries.
  • Coordinate payroll processing and workforce administration through Gusto and Deel, supporting domestic employees, international team members, and contractors.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, multi‑state, and international employment requirements, identifying and escalating sensitive personnel matters as appropriate.
  • Oversee organizational systems administration, employee access, technology onboarding and offboarding, and coordination with external vendors and service providers.
  • Support executive leadership, Board and committee meeting logistics, administrative documentation, vendor agreements, and organizational reporting.
  • Ensure continuity of essential HR and administrative processes throughout the staffing transition, including year-end compliance activities, process documentation, and knowledge transfer.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong hands‑on HR generalist or People Operations experience, with demonstrated ability to independently manage payroll coordination, benefits, employee support, onboarding, offboarding, and personnel administration.
  • Thorough understanding of U.S. employment laws and multi‑state HR compliance; experience supporting international employees, contractors, PEO/EOR arrangements, and distributed teams is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with HR and payroll platforms such as Gusto and Deel, along with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and other organizational technology systems.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills, with sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
  • Nonprofit or mission‑driven organizational experience strongly preferred; SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is a plus but not required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • This fully remote, temporary opportunity offers competitive compensation of $39–$41 per hour , depending on qualifications and experience.
  • The position offers approximately 40 hours per week, with a schedule aligned with Eastern Time Zone business hours.
  • The anticipated start date is November 2, 2026, or as soon as possible, with the assignment expected to continue through December 31, 2026, and potential extension into January 2027 or beyond.
  • Necessary work equipment will be provided, and applicable benefits will be discussed during the recruitment process.
  • While this is an interim assignment, there may be an opportunity for longer‑term employment depending on organizational needs.
