Job summary

Vaco is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit to provide finance continuity through an Interim Controller role. This part-time consultant position offers a hybrid work setup in Mesa, AZ, with an anticipated 3-6 month duration and a start in early November.

Vaco has partnered with a mission-driven nonprofit organization experiencing growth and seeking additional finance continuity support. As a result, they are seeking an experienced InterimController with nonprofit accounting, grant accounting, and QuickBooks Online expertise.

Job Title: Interim Controller (Part-Time Consultant)

Pay Rate: $50-$55 per hour

Location: Hybrid (Mesa, AZ)

Project Duration: 3-6 months with potential extension

Start Date: Early November

Responsibilities Include:

• Manage daily bookkeeping, check processing, and reimbursement activities.
• Track grant expenditures, gift cards, and project spending associated with major foundation grants.
• Support monthly close activities including bank reconciliations, deferred revenue accounting, and restricted net asset reporting.
• Partner with the external CPA on month-end and year-end financial close processes.
• Assist with annual budgeting and financial planning initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Assistant Controller, Controller, Interim CFO, or similar senior accounting leadership experience.
• Demonstrated nonprofit accounting experience.
• Strong grant accounting knowledge, including restricted funds and grant reporting.
• Advanced QuickBooks Online (QBO) proficiency.
• Ability to thrive in a flexible consulting environment with changing weekly workload demands.
