Job summary

Vaco by Highspring seeks an Assistant Controller to join its finance leadership team in a mission-driven healthcare setting. This hands-on role involves overseeing daily accounting operations, strong internal controls, and significant interaction with leadership on financial reporting and compliance.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s in accounting/finance, CPA preferred, and 5+ years in progressive accounting roles, preferably in healthcare or nonprofit environments.

We are partnering with a mission-driven healthcare organization seeking an Assistant Controller to join its growing finance leadership team. What You'll Do

• Support the Controller in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities.
• Assist with month-end close, account reconciliations, audit preparation, and financial statement review.
• Help maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and federal regulations.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, grant accounting, and financial compliance efforts.
• Supervise and develop members of the accounting team, including accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable staff.
• Partner with leadership to improve processes, enhance reporting capabilities, and strengthen accounting operations.
• Contribute to ongoing initiatives focused on operational efficiency and organizational growth.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
• Experience with financial reporting, audits, internal controls, and accounting operations.
• Background in healthcare, nonprofit, community health center, or FQHC environments is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with grants management, federal compliance, and fund accounting is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
