Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking an Interim Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller to oversee accounting operations during a period of transition. The role is on-site in the San Francisco Peninsula area and is projected to last 2-3 months with possible extension.

Responsibilities include leading the close, managing fixed assets, and coordinating with external auditors. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance, CPA preferred, 5+ years in accounting leadership, and strong U.S.

Qualifications

• 5+ years progressive accounting experience in leadership roles.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Experience with fixed assets, capital projects, and CIP accounting.
• Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills; able to lead teams in high-volume environment.

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and high-volume transaction processing.
• Lead the monthly close and prepare financial reporting packages, reconciliations, variance analyses, and supporting schedules.
• Manage accruals and ensure appropriate accounting treatment of operating expenses and capital expenditures.
• Oversee fixed assets, depreciation, construction-in-progress schedules, and accounting for capital projects.
• Coordinate annual audit, tax, and compliance activities with external service providers.
• Prepare financial forecasts and analyze budgets, operational trends, and business performance to support leadership decisions.
• Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, automation, and financial reporting workflows.
• Mentor accounting team members and partner with operational leaders on accounting and financial matters.

Our client, a hospitality and recreation organization, is seeking an Interim Accounting Manager / Controller to oversee accounting operations during a period of transition.

This role is primarily on-site in the San Francisco Peninsula area. This engagement is anticipated to last 2-3 months, with the potential to extend/convert.

• Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills, with demonstrated ability to lead teams and operate hands-on in a high-volume environment
