Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in a managerial capacity.
• Experience handling multi-jurisdiction sales tax filings.
• Thorough knowledge of full-cycle Accounts Payable processes.
• Proficiency with Avalara, Shopify, Bill.com and Stripe.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Review accounting workpapers, schedules, and processes to assess objectives and tasks.
• Manage day-to-day accounting activities including AP coding, approvals, payments, and reconciliations.
• Lead multi-jurisdiction sales tax filings using Avalara.
• Support Shopify transactions review and reconciliation.
• Oversee AP workflows via Bill.com, troubleshoot discrepancies, and implement improvements.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, providing updates and recommendations.
• Conduct research to resolve complex accounting, compliance, and transaction discrepancies.
• Assist with other accounting projects as needed.

Interim Accounting Manager

Take charge of critical accounting functions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with this exciting interim opportunity in San Francisco. As an Interim Accounting Manager, you will directly support a thriving leader in the personal and professional alcohol testing industry, ensuring seamless financial operations through November, with the potential for extension. This role demands a hands-on, detail-oriented professional who can independently review existing processes, prioritize tasks swiftly, and deliver impactful results in a short timeframe.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and analyze existing accounting workpapers, schedules, and processes to assess current objectives and outstanding tasks.
• Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including overseeing Accounts Payable operations from invoice coding and approvals to payments and reconciliations.
• Lead multi-jurisdiction sales tax filings, ensuring accuracy and timely compliance utilizing Avalara.
• Support transaction management within Shopify, including review and reconciliation of e-commerce transactions.
• Oversee AP workflows via Bill.com, troubleshoot discrepancies, and implement process improvements.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, providing clear updates and recommendations to resolve issues efficiently.
• Conduct research and resolve complex accounting, compliance, and transaction-related discrepancies.
• Assist with other accounting projects and initiatives as needed, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.

Required Skills:

• Proven accounting management experience, with a strong emphasis on hands-on responsibilities.
• Extensive experience managing multi-jurisdiction sales tax filings.
• Thorough knowledge of full-cycle Accounts Payable processes.
• Proficiency in Avalara, Shopify, Bill.com, and Stripe.
• Ability to independently review documentation, assess needs, and execute tasks accurately.
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
• Strong problem-solving expertise and excellent judgment.

Nice to Have Skills:

• Experience with Canadian sales taxes such as PST, HST, QST, and GST.
• Familiarity with multi‑entity or multi‑jurisdiction accounting environments.
• Background in e‑commerce or technology‑focused industries.
• Knowledge of process documentation and process improvement techniques.
• Hands‑on experience with Stripe transaction reconciliation.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in a managerial capacity.
• Previous experience supporting fast‑paced, technology‑enabled companies is advantageous.

Other Requirements:

• Location: On‑site preferred in San Francisco, but flexible for remote candidates.
• Availability: Immediate start in the week of 09/21, through 11/06, with potential extension.
• Systems: QuickBooks familiarity is a plus.
• This role involves working primarily on‑site but can accommodate some remote work based on candidate fit.
