Job summary

Needham Public Schools’ Newman Elementary School seeks an Intensive Special Education Instructional Assistant for a long-term substitute from October 2, 2026 to November 6, 2026. The role focuses on 1:1 or small group instruction, ABA-based strategies, and life skills support for students with complex needs.

The position involves collaboration with SPED staff, BCBA, and administration, including data collection and communication with families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or at least 2 years experience in ABA or similar role.
• Demonstrate aptitude for work to be performed.
• Passion for working with children/students with complex disabilities.
• Basic knowledge of child growth and development.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 or small group specialized instruction for students with significant special needs using ABA strategies.
• Implement behavior intervention plans with reinforcement and cueing.
• Minimize and manage behavioral challenges per district protocols.
• Support students’ academic, social, and behavioral goals in classroom settings.
• Use augmentative communication and assistive tech for non-speaking students.
• Provide life-skills instruction including toileting and self-care.
• Assist with data collection to monitor progress and plan supports.
• Assist students navigating the school day and communication with families.
• Prepare instructional materials aligned to individual learning goals.
• Collaborate with SPED team and participate in safety and routines.
