Job summary

The Lees Summit R-7 School District is seeking a Paraprofessional Specialist - Miller Park Center for the 2026-27 school year. The role supports instructional programs and at-risk students, following educational and behavioral plans to help students succeed in general or special education settings.

The position works 7.5 hours per day across 171 days per year. Requirements include 60 college credit hours and passing the MO paraprofessional test or completing the MO 20-hour substitute training.

Qualifications

• Must have 60 college credit hours, pass the Paraprofessional test in the State of MO or Missouri 20-hour Online Substitute Training Program

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments and materials under supervising teacher to support classroom objectives.
• Collects student and classroom data to monitor growth and inform IEP/BIP revisions.
• Communicates with SLPs, PTs, COTAs, teachers to assess progress and implement IEP objectives.
• Implements accommodations and modifications to increase accessibility in special education environments.
• Maintains manual and electronic records to provide written references and meet mandated requirements.
• Participates in targeted professional development to stay current on educational practices.
• Models appropriate social behavior and communication with students and staff.
• Monitors students for safety and de-escalates situations outside the classroom.
• Provides instruction to students under direction of the teacher in math, reading, etc., to help meet IEP goals.
• Responds to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns.
• Supports students with intensive behavioral supports as needed.
• Utilizes district behavior management techniques to help students participate in class.
