Job summary

Southwest Allen County Schools is seeking a paraprofessional for a 9-month assignment. The role supports students in both special and general education settings, under direction of teachers.

Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials to execute IEPs and assisting with community-based activities to develop life and vocational skills. Candidates should have at least two years of college coursework or an associate degree, with prior classroom assistant experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Completion of two years of study (60+ hours) at an institution of higher education or possession of an associate's (or higher) degree is preferred.
• Previous experience as a classroom assistant desirable.
• Must be able to lift 50+ pounds and may be required to drive a special education van with students.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect support to promote student learning in the special education and general education settings as directed by the special needs teacher(s).
• Prepares instructional materials according to teacher direction to implement IEPs.
• Attends community based instructional activities to help students build life and vocational skills.
• Implements behavior intervention plans (BIP) when necessary.
• Other responsibilities as needed and determined by the Special Education Office.
