Job summary

Help USA is seeking an Intake Worker to warmly welcome new clients at our shelter and support them through a difficult time as part of the social services team.

You will conduct intake assessments, ensure paperwork and progress notes are completed in our electronic systems on time, and help clients understand site requirements and available services. Strong communication, organization, and interview skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required or demonstrated experience.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interviewing skills.
• Excellent time management and organization skills.
• Availability to provide evening and weekend coverage as needed.
• Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Familiarize new clients with the site and program, ensuring they understand facility requirements.
• Provide information and referral services to clients as needed and/or specified in their service plans.

What You’ll Do

As an Intake Worker, you will be one of the first members of the social services team to interact with our new clients when they enter our shelter site, so it is critical that you are welcoming and supportive at a very difficult time in their lives. You will work as an integral member of the social services team.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Conducting intake assessments for all new clients, ensuring that all required paperwork is completed and all required progress notes and other information are entered into our electronic systems completely, accurately, and on a timely basis.
• Familiarizing new clients with our site and our program, ensuring that they understand the requirements of the facility.
• Providing information and referral services to clients as needed and/or specified in their service plans.
• Advocating for clients and assisting in navigation of the service delivery system to ensure receipt of entitlement services and other services as appropriate.

You’re a great fit for this role if you have:

• High School Diploma or equivalent OR equivalent experience and skills.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interviewing skills.
• Excellent time management and organization skills.
• Availability to provide evening and weekend coverage as needed.
• Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft applications.

It would be helpful (but not required) if you have:

• Prior experience in case management, assessment counseling, and crisis intervention.
