Job summary

VNS Health is seeking an Intake Specialist in New York to act as a subject matter expert across intake teams, handling referrals, data entry, and patient information with care. You will updates records, coordinate with Revenue Cycle, and support transitions from hospitals or clinics to home care.

The role requires strong customer service, 2+ years healthcare experience, and the ability to learn medical terminology quickly while handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalency required.
• Associates degree in Business or related field preferred.
• Minimum two years of customer service experience, preferably in healthcare.
• Ability to quickly learn medical terminology.
• Experience entering data and using a mainframe or similar system.
• Adapt to change and work in a team-based environment.
• Strong follow up skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Bilingual skills may be required, as determined by operational needs.

Responsibilities

• Responds to inbound phone calls and determines customer needs with accurate intake.
• Responds to non-clinical issues and resolves complaints; collaborates with staff as needed.
• Handles and routes inbound faxes to referral channels and systems.
• Updates electronic referrals and attaches clinical documents in EMR.
• Obtains patient insurance information and coordinates with Revenue Cycle for home care authorization.
• Ensures referral information is complete and documented; follows up for missing data.
• Reconciles intake information within the intake system and mitigates risk.
• May train intake staff on portal use and provide ongoing support.
