Job summary

The City of New York, Department of Homeless Services, is seeking an Administrative Director of Social Services M-II to lead intake operations, oversee shelters, ensure safety and compliance, and drive program quality across directly operated and contracted facilities. The role emphasizes data-driven oversight, collaboration with providers, and policy implementation.

Hours are Monday through Friday, with a 6:00pm–2:00am shift to support 24/7 shelter operations.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree and four years of progressively responsible social services experience, with one year at admin/manager level.
• Graduate degree or licensure may substitute for up to three years of the required experience.
• LCSW or LMSW license may substitute for three years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee administration of directly operated and contracted facilities to ensure safe, well-maintained services.
• Ensure compliance with mandates, standards and shelter regulations.
• Respond to critical incidents affecting clients' health and safety; conduct site visits.
• Supervise shelter contracting, review RFPs, and participate in contract negotiations.
• Coordinate with Community Boards to maintain cooperative community relationships.

Education

Baccalaureate degree + 4 years leadership experience in social services

Master's degree substitute for two years experience

Licensed Social Worker (LCSW/LMSW) substitute for three years
