Lone Star Legal Aid in Houston seeks a detail‑oriented paralegal to support attorneys with case preparation, document filing, and client outreach. You will screen applicants, research, and handle biographic data, while ensuring privacy and professional standards.
Responsibilities include scheduling client appointments, collecting and serving documents, and performing clerical tasks to keep files moving through opening and closing stages.
Interviewsclients,preparesdocumentswhichassistattorneys,researcheslaw,andinvestigatesfacts.Performs case related clerical tasks necessary for processing files for opening and closing. Screens applicants for eligibilitybytelephoneandinperson.Performscomputerandstandardlegalresearchincludingtitlesearches, and prior case research. Files documents with courts, administrative agencies, and other tribunals. Schedules clientappointments.Collects,delivers,andserveslegaldocuments.Assistscasehandlerswithbiographicdata collection, photocopies and faxes documents. Performs other duties assigned by Managing Attorney. Assures the privacy of clients and exhibits a high degree of professionalstandard.
High school diploma or equivalent.
2 years law office related experience or 1 year college (preferred).
Applicant must also have good file processing and oral communication skills; interviewing, assessment, and problemsolvingskills;aswellasproficiencyinEnglishgrammar,spelling,andmathematics;dataentryskills; and ability to work under pressure. Bilingual (Spanish & English) speaking/writing skillspreferred.
