Job summary

The Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) Fraud & Enforcement Division seeks a creative, self-motivated Insurance Investigation Officer 1 for its Enforcement Unit in Columbus. You will analyze complaints, conduct investigations, interview witnesses, prepare reports and testify as needed.

This full-time role requires strong investigative skills, knowledge of insurance laws, and the ability to advise the public and insurers on ODI policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • 2 yrs. exp. in insurance field or related entity or investigations.
  • 2 yrs. exp. in law enforcement with investigations or 12 mos. exp. in conducting investigations.
  • Undergraduate core program in business, insurance or criminal justice; 6 mos. exp. or trg. in computer operations.
  • Equivalent of the minimum class qualifications for employment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze less complex allegations of agent misconduct and unlicensed activities.
  • Conduct administrative investigations of violations of Title 39 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • Gather information, documents and evidence using a wide variety of techniques.
  • Interview complainants, suspects, witnesses, insurers and policyholders.
  • Prepare investigative reports documenting investigation outcomes.
  • Testify during administrative proceedings.
  • Represent the division at industry or law enforcement meetings and conferences.
  • Advise insurers, agents and the public about Department laws, rules and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
