Job summary

DavidJoseph&Co in Houston seeks a highly capable Insurance Defense/PI Litigation Associate to manage high-exposure cases from day one. This hybrid role starts in-office and transitions to two days from home after six months, with a base salary and quarterly tier bonuses rewarding performance.

You will handle catestrophic PI, product liability, and construction defect matters, owning your docket and engaging in depositions, motions, and hearings across state and federal courts.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Active Texas State Bar license in good standing.
• 2–6 years of insurance defense or personal injury litigation experience.
• Owned your own insurance defense or PI docket.
• Took and defended depositions of fact witnesses, experts, and corporate representatives.
• Experience with cases carrying $1M+ exposure or policy limits.
• Drafted and argued motions; managed discovery on your own.
• Capable of presenting oral argument at hearings.
• Disciplined, contemporaneous time entry and a clean billing record.
• Willing to work from the Houston office full-time for six months and meet a 154 billable hours per month floor.
• Writing sample is required with your application.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage a docket of high-exposure personal injury, product liability, and construction defect defense cases.
• Take and defend depositions of fact witnesses, experts, and corporate representatives in state and federal court.
• Draft and respond to motions and discovery with a strategic, aggressive defense posture.
• Argue motions and present at hearings.
• Work with a paralegal to build defenses efficiently.
• Maintain contemporaneous time entries and meet weekly deadlines for billing.
• Progress along a track: Associate → Non-Equity Shareholder → Shareholder.
