Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a junior to mid-level Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to support energy and power projects. The role focuses on instrumentation and control design, collaboration across geographies, and delivering reliable energy solutions.

With 2+ years of experience, you will specify instrumentation, develop DCS/PLC logic, and participate in startup and commissioning activities. A PE license within a year is encouraged, and a hybrid work model applies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of design, consulting, or operations experience.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers across geographies to deliver projects.
  • Experience in instrument specification, PLC or DCS control systems, P&ID development, control system architecture, SCADA systems and networks.
  • Experience with industrial DCS/PLC logic development, graphics development, and hardware implementation (Allen Bradley PLC, Emerson Ovation, Siemens T3000 or GE MarkVIe).
  • Experience commissioning of Control systems, troubleshooting to maintain high availability.
  • Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain PE within one year.
  • Proven ability to engage with clients, develop relationships and win work, delivering value.
  • Ability to work independently and mentor junior staff.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills.
  • Availability to work at least 2 days/week in our offices.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare specifications and drawings, write control system descriptions, startup and commissioning activities.
  • Specify instrumentation such as pressure and flow transmitters, switches, and control valves for large power projects.
  • Knowledge of DCS/PLC, SCADA, and HMI software to design and implement instrumentation and control systems.
  • Design of SCADA and OT networks including DCS, PLCs, servers/workstations, network switches and firewalls.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines on large projects to incorporate equipment, process, and facility control concepts.
  • Contribute to proposals and client relationships and business development.
  • Select and troubleshoot field process instruments.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Drive ownership of health & safety in all aspects of project execution.
