Job summary

SSOE Group in Scottsdale, AZ, seeks an Instrumentation & Controls Designer to join the Advanced Technology division. You will develop and coordinate control system deliverables for cleanroom, fab, and specialty facilities, collaborating with process, mechanical, electrical, and commissioning teams to ensure integrated, constructible solutions.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in engineering design technology or equivalent experience in instrumentation and controls design.
• Extensive experience in instrument and control systems for semiconductor, cleanroom, or advanced manufacturing environments.
• Strong knowledge of sensors, transmitters, actuators, PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and building automation interfaces.
• Proven ability to produce and coordinate detailed deliverables such as P&IDs, control narratives, I/O lists, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and installation details.
• Experience reviewing vendor submittals and coordinating with equipment suppliers in fast-paced projects.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, and commissioning agents while maintaining clarity.
• Familiarity with QA/QC processes, change management, and documentation controls.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; leadership and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop instrumentation and controls deliverables for cleanroom, fab, utility, and specialty systems (points lists, I/O schedules, narratives, loop diagrams, schematics).
• Support project execution from early planning through startup and turnover for semiconductor facilities.
• Coordinate control system requirements with multiple teams to ensure integrated solutions.
• Prepare and review P&IDs, sequences of operations, instrument index, and valve/sensor selections.
• Perform design calculations for instrument sizing, valve selection, and system performance.
• Review vendor submittals and equipment data sheets for compliance.
• Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and coordination sessions.
• Support QA/QC reviews for pack-ages across disciplines.
• Respond to RFIs and assist with field coordination during installation.
• Conduct site walks, verify conditions, and assist with field troubleshooting and as-builts.
• Collaborate with startup/commissioning teams for testing and sequence verification.
• Track design changes through change control and document impacts.
• Identify risks related to controls integration and reliability.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to best practices and documentation standards.
