Job summary

SSOE is seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Designer in Hillsboro, OR to develop and coordinate control system deliverables for cleanroom, fab, and advanced manufacturing facilities. You will partner across process, mechanical, electrical, and construction teams to ensure integrated, constructible solutions from concept to startup.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in instrumentation and controls design.
• Extensive experience designing instrumentation and control systems for semiconductor, cleanroom or advanced manufacturing.
• Knowledge of sensors, transmitters, actuators, control valves, PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and building automation interfaces.
• Ability to produce and coordinate P&IDs, control narratives, I/O lists, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and installation details.
• Experience reviewing vendor submittals, coordinating with suppliers, and supporting construction and startup.

Responsibilities

• Develop instrumentation and controls design deliverables for cleanroom, fab, and specialty systems.
• Support project execution from planning through startup and turnover.
• Coordinate control system requirements with multidisciplinary teams.
• Prepare and review P&IDs, sequences of operations, instrument index, valve and sensor selection.
• Perform design calculations for instrument sizing, control valves, and system performance.
• Review vendor submittals and field data to ensure design intent.
• Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and coordination sessions.
• QA/QC reviews to verify accuracy, code compliance, and constructability.
• Assist field coordination during installation to resolve conflicts.
• Conduct site walks and assist with as‑built documentation.

Education

Associate's degree in engineering design technology, or related technical field

Strong knowledge of instrumentation and controls design

Effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams
