Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Nuclear Instrumentation and Control Engineer to join a high-performing team in developing and upgrading instrumentation and control systems for nuclear power plants. You will collaborate with experienced colleagues on designs and prepare technical documents for implementation at client sites in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of circuit analysis and design fundamentals.
• Familiarity with analog and digital signaling used in instrumentation and control.
• Awareness of field and control devices common to power systems.
• Working knowledge of laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
• Understanding of PWR systems and related drawings is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Support creation of drawings and technical specifications for Nuclear Instrumentation Systems.
• Prepare procurement/manufacturing documents and technical specifications.
• Assist in resolving technical issues including obsolescence.
• Support supplier and manufacturing operations with technical issue resolution.
• Develop system and hardware design specs for Instrumentation and Control systems.
• Create cabinet layouts, wiring schematics, and PCB layout drawings.
• Develop test procedures from design and software requirements.
• Assist root cause investigations and defect tracking.
• Provide customer support for installation and emergent issues.
• Collaborate in a team and coordinate external support to complete projects.
• Communicate analyses, results, and implementation steps clearly to customers and team.

About The Role

As a Westinghouse Nuclear Instrumentation and Control Engineer, you will be part of a high performing team assisting on a variety of projects to help new or existing nuclear power plants implement world class nuclear instrumentation signal processing and control systems. You will work with experienced colleagues to develop new designs and help upgrade and refresh existing designs to the state-of-the-art in a growing field with countless opportunities for deep technical growth.

You will report to the Engineering Manager, Safety & Reactor Systems Engineering, and work a hybrid schedule at the Westinghouse New Stanton, PA location. Relocation assistance is available within the US.

Key Responsibilities

• Support engineering team for the creation of drawings and design/technical specifications for Nuclear Instrumentation Systems.
• Compile technical documents / specifications for procurement/manufacturing.
• Support resolution of technical issues including obsolescence.
• Support supplier and manufacturing operations with technical issue resolution.
• Support development of system and hardware design specifications for Instrumentation and Control systems for both new and existing plants.
• Support creation of hardware design documentation such as cabinet layout drawings, cable/wiring schematics, and PCB layout/schematics.
• Support Test document creation and test execution.
• Develop test procedures from System Design and Software Requirement documents.
• Support root cause investigation of defects and coordinate defect tracking efforts.
• Provide support to customers for installation and emergent technical issues.
• Apply work within a team and coordinate external support to successfully complete project scope.
• Effectively communicate (written and verbal) analyses basis, summary of results, proposed solutions, and implementation instructions to customers and team members.
• Opportunities to travel to customer and supplier sites (domestic and international).

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• 0 -3 years of engineering experience.
• Understanding of fundamental engineering principles.
• Knowledge of analog and digital circuit analysis/design.
• Awareness of field devices and control devices typical to the power industry.
• Working knowledge of lab equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, function generator).
• Understanding of overall design and operation of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) and systems is preferred but not required.
• Awareness of typical industry standard drawings including P&ID drawings, loop diagrams, cabinet drawings and panel layouts is helpful.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $58,000 to $73,000 per year.
