Penn State Altoona, Division of Division of Business, Health, Humanities and Social Sciences, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-line position at the rank of Instructor/Assistant Teaching Professor of English Composition. This is a thirty-six-week appointment for fall and spring semesters, starting August 2025. Responsibilities include teaching 12 credits per semester (four courses) in composition classes such as ENGL 15, 101, and 202, with potential opportunities to teach other courses aligned with the program's needs and the candidate's expertise. Candidates should demonstrate experience teaching first-year writing, with attention to pedagogy and strategies for mitigating AI in the classroom.
Applicants should hold at least a master's degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or a related field. Candidates for Instructor rank require a master's degree; those for Assistant Teaching Professor require a terminal/doctoral degree.
The position involves teaching, advising, scholarship, professional growth, and service to the college, community, and profession. Participation in program development, student recruitment, retention activities, and program assessment is expected. This is an in-person position; remote teaching is not available.
