The Role:

Our Data Science and Data Literacy Instructor (part-time contract) is a dynamic opportunity that combines your passion for teaching with your industry experience. As an independent contractor (1099) with Data Society, you'll have the freedom to teach classes that you're interested in, when you're available for them - and still be part of an engaged, communicative team. We have a need for numerous part-time contract instructors year-round so once hired you will join a pool of instructors.

You’ll interact with professionals from around the world and across a variety of industries to help them understand how they can use machine learning and AI to advance their careers and transform their industries. Your role is to create an energetic, supportive, and practical learning environment so that learners walk away with new insights and action items that they will be able to implement in their professional careers. Your position is key in communicating the students' needs to leadership and instructional designers and maintaining a steady focus on opportunities to enhance the student experience. While we currently run most of our training programs online, there may be opportunities for in-person trainings.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead engaging and intuitive onsite or live-streaming training for a professional audience.
  • Learn of additional client needs through conversations with students and key client stakeholders.
  • Support students through highly interactive teaching methods.
  • Preparation prior to training through familiarization of course materials, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Working with the instructional design and data science teams to develop and improve content.

Skills You Bring:

You are passionate about AI, data science, and data literacy and believe in making high-quality, intuitive education. You are a subject matter expert with a passion for teaching. You take great pleasure in demystifying complex topics, and making them accessible to beginners through clear communication and storytelling. You want to help students achieve their objectives and help them solve the challenges that they face. You are an engaging speaker who is comfortable working in a professional environment, delivering courses to senior staff in the federal government and Fortune 500 companies.

Minimum qualifications we're looking for are:

  • At least 2+ years of professional experience working in a data related field.
  • Subject matter and technical expertise in at least one of the following: R, Python, SQL, Data Governance, Artificial Intelligence, and/or Machine Learning.
  • Experience as a tutor, teacher, teaching/learning assistant or instructor for adults and professionals.
  • Experience teaching online and in-person courses.
  • Excellent communication skills and you must be fluent in the spoken language that you teach in. (Possible projects could require English, Spanish, Dutch/Flemish, or French fluency.)
