Job summary

Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) seeks an Adjunct Instructor for Motorcycle Safety to teach community education courses, including the Basic Rider Course, with instruction possible in the evening or on weekends on the Jamestown campus.

The role requires delivering quality instruction, maintaining student records, and supporting college outcomes through professional conduct and up-to-date knowledge of the MSF program.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Certification through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF).
• Associate degree preferred.
• Teaching and/or industry training experience.
• Experience with general motorcycle maintenance.

Job Description

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College ( GTCC )are responsible for supporting student success by creating anoptimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managingeffective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative workrelationships with other faculty and staff, supporting collegeadministrative requirements, and maintaining competency in theirinstructional field. He/she will be responsible for qualityinstruction and for effective participation and interest in thetotal affairs of the college.

Under general supervision of the director for community serviceprograms, this individual will be teaching motorcycle safetycourses within the community education programs, which couldinclude, day, evenings or weekends classes. The community serviceprogram consists of a wide variety of personal enrichment classesand special programs designed to meet a multiplicity of life-longlearning educational needs within the Guilford Countycommunity.

Duties/Functions

Teaching

• developing learner centered lesson plans
• employing teaching strategies & instructional materials fordifferent learning styles
• incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technologyin classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments
• creating and modeling a quality learning environment thatsupports a diverse student population
• preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional supportmaterials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials,instructional media and other devices as appropriate
• conducting appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes incourses and programs/general education as appropriate

Professional Development

• participating in professional development activities to maintaincurrency in field; maintaining current credentials or licensures asrequired by program or accreditation
• participating in professional development opportunities toadvance teaching skills and strategies

Administration

• maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep ofassigned equipment
• providing for the security of facilities, equipment andinstructional materials and maintaining safe workingconditions
• maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) inaccordance with established deadlines using a variety oftechnology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor,Moodle)
• complying with all applicable college, state and federal rulesand regulations

Student Support

• addressing student concerns in a timely manner
• promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to developstrategies for success
• referring students to campus and community resources whenappropriate
• Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills:adaptability, communication, information processing, problemsolving, responsibility and teamwork.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Education Required

• High School Diploma or GED graduate.
• Certified through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation ( MSF ).

Education Preferred

• Associate Degree from a regionally accredited post-secondaryinstitution.

Experience Required

• Teaching and/or industry training experience.

Experience Preferred

• Experience with general motorcycle maintenance.

KSA Required

Department/Job Specific Requirements

1. Maintain certification in accordance with the Motorcycle SafetyFoundation ( MSF ) Program and the North Carolina Motorcycle SafetyEducation Program ( NCMSEP )
2. Teach a minimum of three classes per year, either the BasicRider Course ( BRC ) or Basic Rider Experience (BRC2)
3. Attend an annual update training as required by MSF and GTCC.
