Job summary

Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) invites applications for a full-time Instructor in Automotive Systems Technology, General and Ford Asset. The incumbent will develop and teach a broad range of automotive topics, maintain laboratory facilities, and collaborate with industry partners to ensure current and relevant curriculum.

Evening/weekend teaching may be required. Minimum qualifications include an associate degree in automotive technology or related field, ASE Master Certification,

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College areresponsible for supporting student success by creating an optimumlearning environment, responding to student needs, managingeffective instructional activities, developing curriculum courses,modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism,developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty andstaff, supporting college administrative requirements, andmaintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will beresponsible for quality instruction and for effective participationand interest in the total affairs of the college.

Under general supervision, this individual will develop, prepareand teach a wide variety of topics within the Automotive Generaland Ford Asset curriculum and may be required to teach day, eveningand/or weekend hours. Faculty will also be responsible forrecruiting/advising students, caring for and maintaining thelaboratory facilities, and collaborating with industry partners toensure relevancy of the curriculum.

  • Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology or relatedfield-of-study from an institutionally accredited post-secondarycollege/university with the ability to obtain a bachelor’s degreewithin two years of hire.
  • Current ASE Master Certification, or ability to attain itwithin six months of hire.
  • Ford Technician Certifications to include Electrical Systems,Climate Control, Gas Engine Performance and Gas Engine Repair withthe ability to attain all remaining Ford Technician Certificationswithin one year of hire.
Education Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology or relatedfield-of-study from an institutionally accredited post-secondarycollege/university.
  • ASE Master Certification with L1
Experience Required
  • Five years of recent, relevant industry experience in anautomotive repair facility.
  • Experience with automotive testing and diagnosticequipment.
  • Teaching and/or industry training experience in automotivetechnology topics in any of the following formats: teachingcourses, training sessions, conducting professional developmentworkshops and/or other continuing education seminars.
Experience Preferred
  • More than five years of recent, relevant industry experience inan automotive repair facility.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience in a automotive technologyprogram
  • Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes
  • Experience with distance learning and /or alternateinstructional delivery systems
