Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College areresponsible for supporting student success by creating an optimumlearning environment, responding to student needs, managingeffective instructional activities, developing curriculum courses,modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism,developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty andstaff, supporting college administrative requirements, andmaintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will beresponsible for quality instruction and for effective participationand interest in the total affairs of the college.

The Division of Business, Creative & Performing Arts atGuilford Technical Community College seeks an energetic,enthusiastic, and collaborative entertainment technologiesprofessional to join our team. Under general supervision, thisindividual will teach in the Entertainment Technologies program.Courses may include, but are not limited to, live sound productionconcert lighting, recording engineering, music business, equipmentmaintenance, and introduction to entertainment. The successfulcandidate should be prepared to integrate technology skills intothe classroom, be available to teach at times and locations thatmeet the needs of students and be committed to workingconstructively with all facets of our programs within a communitycollege setting. Successful applicants will be placed into our poolof adjuncts to be assigned sections or serve as substituteinstructors on an as needed basis.

Duties/Functions
Teaching

Prepare & teach departmental courses to include:

  • developing learner centered lesson plans
  • employing teaching strategies & instructional materials fordifferent learning styles
  • incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technologyin classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments
  • creating and modeling a quality learning environment thatsupports a diverse student population
  • preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional supportmaterials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials,instructional media and other devices as appropriate
  • updating and revising curriculum to maintain currency
  • developing new courses as needed to support the instructionalmission
  • participating in the development and review of course andprogram/general education outcomes as appropriate
  • developing, conducting and documenting appropriate assessmentof student learning outcomes in courses and programs/generaleducation as appropriate
Professional Development

Maintain a professional status that supports the instructionalmission by:

  • participating in professional development activities tomaintain currency in field; maintaining current credentials orlicensures as required by program or accreditation
  • participating in professional development opportunities toadvance teaching skills and strategies
Administration

Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment andstudent records to include:

  • maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep ofassigned equipment
  • providing for the security of facilities, equipment andinstructional materials and maintaining safe workingconditions
  • maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) inaccordance with established deadlines using a variety oftechnology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor,Canvas)
  • complying with all applicable college, state and federal rulesand regulations
Student Support

Provide an environment conducive to student success to include:

  • conducting recruiting activities
  • promoting retention/persistence by assisting students todevelop strategies for success
  • referring students to campus and community resources whenappropriate

Demonstrate and model the College's employability skills:adaptability, communication, information processing, problemsolving, responsibility and teamwork.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Music Technology, EntertainmentTechnology, Theatre Technology Scenic and Lighting Design, orrelated field from an institutionally accreditedcollege/university.
Education Preferred
  • Master's Degree in Music Technology, Entertainment Technology,Theatre Technology Scenic and Lighting Design, or related fieldfrom an institutionally accredited college/university.
Experience Required
  • 3 years of relevant industry experience in concert sound andlighting, recording engineering, or music business.
  • One year of post-secondary teaching and/or professionaltraining experience in any of the following formats: teachingcredit or non-credit courses, training sessions, conductingprofessional development workshops, and/or other continuingeducation seminars.
Experience Preferred
  • More than 3 years of relevant industry experience in concertsound and lighting, recording engineering, or music business.
  • Community College teaching experience
  • Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes
