Duties and Responsibilities

Teach the equivalent of five (5) courses per semester (fall and spring)
Develop and revise curricula
Advise ASLS students
College service (committee assignments, recruitment events, etc.)
Professional development (conferences, workshops, publications, etc.)
Serve as program manager for the Associate of Arts in American Sign Language Studies
Other duties as assigned

Education and Credentials

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following or a closely related field:

American Sign Language
Linguistics
Sign Language Studies
Sign Language Education
Interpreter Education
Deaf Education
Deaf Culture

One Of The Following Credentials

Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from RID
Certification from the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA)
Or an equivalent recognized certification

Preferred Education

Master’s degree in one of the following or a closely related field:

American Sign Language
Linguistics
Sign Language Studies
Sign Language Education
Interpreter Education
Deaf Education
Deaf Culture

Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching American Sign Language at the college or university level.
