Job summary

NSBSD Pedagogy seeks a paraeducator to assist teachers and support student learning in a dynamic school environment. You will lead small groups, tutor students individually, and help with classroom management and disability support throughout the day.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with preference for Inupiaq knowledge and experience. Training on safety, materials handling, and collaboration with staff is provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution; or two years (48 semester hours) at regionally accredited college; or Paraprofessional Assessment Test (PAT).
• Foreign degree? obtain foreign transcript evaluation.
• Ability to communicate in English (read, write, speak).
• Inupiaq-speaking and cultural experience preferred.
• Basic arithmetic and ability to apply to currency/weight/volume/distance.
• Ability to present a lesson; experience with office machines; capable of lifting up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional and support assistance to teachers.
• Instruct small groups of students.
• Tutor students individually.
• Assist with classroom management.
• Work with assigned children with disabilities.
• Support intensive level multiple disability students during the school day as assigned.
• Assist designated students with physical tasks and personal hygiene (feeding and toileting).
• Conduct activities to encourage parent involvement.
• Offer instructional support in the library, media center, and computer lab as needed.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, agencies, and community members.
• Support students with remedial work, provide tutoring, and monitor progress.
• Prepare instructional materials and supplies for classroom use.
• Assist students in various areas such as the lunchroom, library, gym, pool, and locker rooms.
• Supervise students on buses, in gym, hallways, and other locations.
• Report accidents, assaults, property damage, and abusive behavior immediately.
• Operate classroom and office equipment.
• Follow District policies and regulations.
• Support the educational values, philosophy, and mission of the District.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
