Job Description

Montgomery College is seeking two full-time Philosophy facultymembers. One position will be based out of the Germantown Campus.One position will be based out of the Rockville Campus. Bothpositions will start in Spring 2027. We are seekingenthusiastic and dedicated teachers who exhibit a high degree ofprofessionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and theability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. The facultymembers will have the opportunity to teach a range of Philosophyclasses. This position is part of a collective bargainingunit.

The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in amulti-cultural environment and will welcome the opportunity to workwith students with diverse learning abilities. Faculty dutiesinclude classroom, laboratory and clinical instruction, assessment,curriculum development, advising, professional inquiry, committeework, and utilizing instructional technology.

Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such asface-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or blended formats during days,evenings, and weekends. Montgomery College has multiple campuses,and faculty may be assigned to teach in-person at any of thesecampuses and teach online.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Faculty members are expected to teach a variety of Philosophycourses offered by the discipline and may teach in anotherdiscipline depending on qualifications.
  • Faculty may be asked to teach early morning, evening, weekend,off-campus, remote, or online courses.
  • Faculty members teach 30 semester hours per academic year .Opportunities may exist for faculty to teach summer courses.
  • Faculty duties include serving on department, campus andcollegewide committees, advising students, providing leadership tostudent clubs, maintaining an active program of professionaldevelopment, and participating in professional organizations andactivities.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Philosophy or closely related field .Graduate coursework must include courses that reflect both depthand breadth in Philosophy.
  • Experience or professional development training on working witha diverse student population.
  • Experience or professional development training on effectivetechnology use in the classroom.
  • Proficiency with and ability to use a Learning ManagementSystem (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology tofacilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment.
  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personalcomputer with virus protection that can connect to the internetoutside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, collegecampus). Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account andaccess to the learning platform, password-protected facultysections of the website, college listservs, and other facultycommunications tools.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in theUnited States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Philosophy or closely related field.
  • Graduate credit hours in another teaching discipline (such asPolitical Science, History, etc.).
  • Currency in content and pedagogy in Philosophy; at least oneyear of teaching experience in this or a related discipline at thecollege or secondary level.
  • Community college teaching experience and a commitment to thecommunity college mission.
  • Experience with academic advising.
  • Experience working with dual enrollment studentpopulations.
  • Competence in web-based or other distance educationcourses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teachingpractices and support of a diverse student population.
  • Experience supporting students to overcome barriers to academicsuccess .
Hiring Range: $64,510 - $98,220 annually.
