With over 500 students majoring in criminal justice across twocriminal justice programs, faculty strive to meet students’ diverseacademic needs by offering a wide array of dynamic and challengingcourses that are taught in multiple formats and at various times,ensuring ease of access for our busy students. The curricula aredesigned for individuals currently employed in criminal justiceprofessions as well as students interested in pursuing careers inthe field.
Montgomery College criminal justice students transfer to some ofthe most prestigious colleges and universities throughout thecountry, including the University of Maryland, College Park, TowsonUniversity, and the University of Maryland Global Campus.
Montgomery College criminal justice faculty actively engage in anumber of student support and co-curricular initiatives asevidenced by their efforts in the development of open education andzero-cost instructional materials, embedded academic and careeradvising, and external partnerships with practitioners that exposestudents to diverse curricular and career pathways in the socialsciences. Faculty also work closely with industry partners on theprogram advisory committee to develop curriculum updates,articulation agreements, career workshops, student field trips, andcontinuing education for criminal justice professionals.
Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment,curriculum development, advising, professional inquiry, committeework, and the utilization of instructional technology. Many coursesare taught using open educational resources (OERs), yielding costsavings for students, and providing faculty with the opportunity tocurate diverse, relevant, and current instructional materials.Incoming faculty will utilize OERs in alignment with the otherfaculty in the discipline.
Teaching assignments may include various delivery modalities, suchas in-person synchronous online, asynchronous online, HyFlex,hybrid, and/or blended formats. Courses may be held during daytime,evening, and weekend hours. Montgomery College has three campusesand instructs courses a t area high schools and the College's EastCounty Educational Center. Faculty may be assigned to any of theselocations.
