Montgomery College is seeking two full-time Philosophy faculty members for Germantown and Rockville campuses. Positions begin Spring 2027. Teach a range of Philosophy courses in diverse formats including face-to-face, online, hybrid, and blended.

Responsibilities include classroom instruction, curriculum development, advising, committee work, and using instructional technology. The role requires a commitment to supporting diverse learners and your teaching may occur days, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Philosophy or closely related field.
  • Graduate coursework in Philosophy showing depth and breadth.
  • Experience or professional development training with diverse student populations.
  • Experience or professional development training on effective technology use in the classroom.
  • Proficiency with and ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and web-based instructional tech to facilitate learning.
  • Access to a personal computer with virus protection and internet connectivity outside of work location.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of Philosophy courses across modalities (face-to-face, online, hybrid, blended).
  • Engage in classroom, laboratory and clinical instruction as applicable.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and assessment activities.
  • Advise students and participate in committees and professional development.
  • Deliver 30 semester hours of instruction per academic year; may teach in summer.

Education

Master’s degree in Philosophy or closely related field

Job description

Montgomery College is seeking two full-time Philosophy faculty members. One position will be based out of the Germantown Campus. One position will be based out of the Rockville Campus. Both positions will start in Spring 2027. We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated teachers who exhibit a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. The faculty members will have the opportunity to teach a range of Philosophy classes. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in a multicultural environment and will welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities.

Faculty duties include classroom, laboratory and clinical instruction, assessment, curriculum development, advising, professional inquiry, committee work, and utilizing instructional technology. Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or blended formats during days, evenings, and weekends. Montgomery College has multiple campuses, and faculty may be assigned to teach in-person at any of these campuses and teach online. Duties include but are not limited to: Faculty members are expected to teach a variety of Philosophy courses offered by the discipline and may teach in another discipline depending on qualifications. Faculty may be asked to teach early morning, evening, weekend, off-campus, remote, or online courses. Faculty members teach 30 semester hours per academic year. Opportunities may exist for faculty to teach summer courses. Faculty duties include serving on department, campus and collegewide committees, advising students, providing leadership to student clubs, maintaining an active program of professional development, and participating in professional organizations and activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Philosophy or closely related field.
  • Graduate coursework must include courses that reflect both depth and breadth in Philosophy.
  • Experience or professional development training on working with a diverse student population.
  • Experience or professional development training on effective technology use in the classroom.
  • Proficiency with and ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment.
  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus). Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Philosophy or closely related field.
  • Graduate credit hours in another teaching discipline (such as Political Science, History, etc.).
  • Currency in content and pedagogy in Philosophy; at least one year of teaching experience in this or a related discipline at the college or secondary level.
  • Community college teaching experience and a commitment to the community college mission.
  • Experience with academic advising.
  • Experience working with dual enrollment student populations.
  • Competence in web-based or other distance education courses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices and support of a diverse student population.
  • Experience supporting students to overcome barriers to academic success.
Hiring Range

$64,510 - $98,220 annually.

Employment Conditions

If you are already retired from the Maryland State Retirement System, you may not enroll in a Maryland State Retirement System plan at Montgomery College and may have earnings restrictions, per state law.
