Whatisthe role?

As an experienced Instructional Designer within our Corporate Learning & Development team, you will design and develop impactful learning solutions that build employee skills, drive business performance, and support our organizational goals. You’ll partner with business leaders, subject matter experts (SMEs), and L&D colleagues to create scalable, learner-focused content that supports onboarding, compliance, systems training, soft skills, leadership development, and more.

Whatwillbeexpectedof me?
  • Apply instructional design best practices (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) to create effective and engaging learning solutions that address specific business needs.
  • Design learning experiences for a range of delivery methods, including self-paced eLearning, virtual instructor-led training (vILT), in-person ILT, microlearning, and blended learning paths.
  • Translate complex business processes or technical content into clear, relatable, and actionable learning experiences.

Content Development

  • Develop instructional materials such as storyboards, scripts, facilitator and participant guides, job aids, knowledge checks, and performance support tools.
  • Create digital content using eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Rise, Vyond) and work with multimedia and graphic design teams when needed.
  • Ensure content aligns with brand, tone, and organizational culture, while incorporating accessibility and inclusion best practices.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Consult with business partners, HR, and SMEs to define learning needs, align on goals, and validate learning outcomes.
  • Facilitate design reviews, gather feedback, and iterate content to ensure relevance and impact.
  • Partner with learning program managers to support communication, rollout, and engagement strategies.

Project Management

  • Manage multiple instructional design projects with varying timelines and scopes.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for instructional design and collaborates with team members, project owners, and SMEs to write instructional content that is succinct, engaging, and targeted to the appropriate audience.
  • Support team members with understanding project requirements and schedules. Publishes timelines with milestone tasks to ensure planned completion of the project. Track project milestones and communicate progress, risks, and dependencies to project stakeholders.
  • Ensure deliverables are completed on time and within scope, while maintaining quality standards.

Measurement & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the development and implementation of evaluation plans using models such as Kirkpatrick or Phillips ROI.
  • Analyze learner feedback, business performance metrics, and usage data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Continuously update learning materials to reflect process changes, learner feedback, and evolving business needs.
  • Use learning management systems (LMS) and learning experience platforms (LXP) to publish and manage courses.
  • Stay informed about trends in adult learning, corporate training, and digital learning technologies to bring innovative ideas to the team.

Experience/Education:

External

  • 4+ years’ experience in instructional design within a corporate L&D or enterprise training function.
  • Proven ability to design for professional audiences in business, customer service, operations, or leadership contexts.
  • Knowledge and experience applying the ADDIE model (or similar model) and the four levels of training evaluation (Kirkpatrick model) preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial operations or experience in a financial institution is preferred.

Internal

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Instructional Designer & Developer at Westerra with demonstrated skills and abilities
  • Current ATD Instructional Design Certificate
Skillsand Abilities:

Instructional Design Expertise

  • Proficient in applying instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, Bloom’s Taxonomy) to create effective learning experiences.
  • Skilled in designing for multiple modalities: eLearning, ILT, vILT, microlearning, and blended learning.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and instructionally sound content for professional and technical audiences

Learning Technology Proficiency

  • Strong working knowledge of eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Rise, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia).
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., SumTotal, Litmos, Cornerstone, Bridge, SuccessFactors)
  • Comfortable using collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Miro) and project management software (e.g., Workfront, Trello, Smartsheet).
  • Familiarity with applying AI technologies (e.g., generative AI, analytics tools) to support training design, automate content creation, or evaluate learner performance and engagement.

Analytical & Evaluation Skills

  • Ability to conduct needs assessments and learning analysis to identify performance gaps.
  • Experience creating and interpreting learning metrics (e.g., completion, satisfaction, knowledge retention) to assess impact and improve design.
  • Familiar with models like Kirkpatrick or Phillips ROI for evaluating training effectiveness.

Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
  • Skilled at scoping, planning, and prioritizing instructional design work.
  • Strong consultative and interpersonal skills to gather input, manage feedback, and influence cross-functional stakeholders.

Business Acumen & Adaptability

  • Understands how training impacts organizational performance and can align learning objectives to business goals.
  • Demonstrates agility in adapting to shifting priorities, organizational changes, and evolving learning needs.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, corporate environments with ambiguity and change.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with SMEs, facilitators, and learners.
  • Ability to translate technical or complex topics into learner-friendly content.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to give and receive feedback constructively.

Salary: inaddition tothe starting annual range of$62,343 - $77,929,thisrole is also eligible forWesterra’s self-fundingreward plan. This plan pays out a cash incentive annually if Westerra hits specific criteria tied to financial goals and this role has a direct impact on the outcome of those results!
