Job summary

Northbrook School District 27 is seeking multiple motivated, energetic, and student-centered instructional assistants to work with students with disabilities in classrooms for the 2026-2027 school year. Positions are at Hickory Point School (PK-2), Shabonee School (3-5), and Wood Oaks Junior High (6-8).

IAs join multidisciplinary teams with special educators, supporting students in general education settings. The role may include supervision before, during, and after school for extra pay.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher preferred.
• Teaching or substitute license preferred.
• Experience supporting students with disabilities is beneficial.

Responsibilities

Job description

District 27 is looking for multiple motivated, energetic, and student-centered educators to work with students with disabilities in a classroom setting for the 2026-2027 school year. Northbrook School District 27 is a professional learning community with approximately 1,300 students across three schools, educating students to succeed in a changing world. There are currently needs at Hickory Point School (grades PK-2), Shabonee School (grades 3-5), and Wood Oaks Junior High (grades 6-8). Our instructional assistants (IAs) play an integral role in our multidisciplinary teams, supporting our students. Most instructional assistant positions in District 27 work closely with a team of special educators to support the needs of our students with disabilities in the general education setting. There are also multiple opportunities available to earn extra money through supervision before, during, and after school. Additional compensation is also offered depending on the needs of the students that our IAs support. A bachelor's degree or greater is preferred, as is a teaching or substitute license.

The hourly rate is established based on years of experience, but degreed candidate rates start at $22.50/hr. Access to health care is available as a cost-shared benefit with the Board of Education. This position comes with access to two personal business days and eleven sick days.
