Job summary

St. John’s University is seeking an Institutional Research Technical Assistant to provide data collection, analysis, reporting, and maintenance of institutional data systems.

This role supports evidence-based decision-making and day-to-day operations of the Office of Institutional Research. You will collaborate with IT to develop new tools, maintain reporting workflows, ensure data integrity across systems, and prepare reports and presentations for campus leaders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Education Administration, Social Sciences or equivalent work experience
• 1–3 years of related professional experience working with data analysis, reporting, or administrative systems
• Knowledge of databases and querying (e.g., SQL).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling data.
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
• Proven performance with Microsoft Office 365 applications with specific knowledge of Excel and experience with Adobe Acrobat

Responsibilities

• Create, maintain, and document innovative and user-friendly reports, dashboards, and visualizations for operational and analysis needs of IR to inform strategic planning and policy development.
• Cleanses, transforms, and validates data from a wide variety of sources.
• Be a liaison with IT to develop new and innovative tools to keep IR on the cutting edge and operational efficiency
• Maintains existing reporting workflows, offering improvements where necessary.
• Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across institutional systems.
• Assist with preparation and dissemination of reports and presentations as needed.
• Monitor Institutional Research’s email account and disseminating data and other requests as appropriate in a timely manner.
• Assist in maintaining the IR website and in educating colleagues on the uses of institutional research and data in general.
• Represent the IR office and university by serving on various campus committees and through participation in external groups.
• Monitor data quality and identify discrepancies or inconsistencies.
• Support requests for data and information from campus stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy, security policies, and ethical standards
