Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Mailroom Supervisor for the Department of Corrections in Columbia. This role coordinates USPS/UPS activities, delivers and receives mail, and supervises mail inspection for contraband within an institutional setting.

Responsibilities include maintaining mail policies, handling monetary instruments, guiding staff training, and ensuring proper mail distribution to inmates and facilities while aligning with state procedures.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and work experience in postal, courier or delivery operations.
• Supervisory experience in postal, courier or delivery operations is preferred.
• Associate degree or higher may substitute for required work experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates all activities between USPS and the institution.
• Delivers and picks up all mail and coordinates package delivery.
• Receives USPS and UPS packages and coordinates delivery to the property officer.
• Directs and supervises mail inspection for contraband.
• Maintains policies and regulations regarding mail in an institutional environment.
• Keeps records of money instruments received or returned.
• Coordinates activities of the E. H. Cooper trust fund.
• Researches inmate location records to handle mail properly.
• Supervises receipt and distribution of all mail and department mail.
• Directs incoming and outgoing mail and packages; plans work and training.
