Qualified candidates must have 1 to 3 years of experience in the Commercial Pro Audio Video Industry. The following are the primary responsibilities, qualifications, and skills for the position.
Scope of Responsibilities: Level 1
- Ability to read basic plans of audio and video systems.
- Pulling low voltage wire (new construction and retrofit) according to basic designs and instructions from the project manager or lead tech.
- Testing cabling with a tone generator and multimeter.
- Neat and legible labeling of wires and components per company standards.
- Experience with termination including RJ45, DB9, HD15, RCA, BNC, and other compression, crimp, or soldered terminations. Fiber termination, installation, and splicing are a plus.
- Understanding how to trim out basic in-wall/in-ceiling speakers with or without pre-construction brackets, phone ports, data ports (e.g., RJ-11, RJ-45), and other equipment. Ensuring all trim-out products are straight, level, and aligned. Use of a laser level is required.
- Ability to rack-mount equipment, lace rear bars, and install rack rails, along with terminating basic power to a power strip, and labeling all cables and components.
- General knowledge of basic systems and their connectivity.
- Install and set up skills for basic installed systems.
- Completing punch-lists in a timely manner.
- Proficiency with basic hand tools and safe operation.
- Efficient and neat work in client environments, maintaining a professional appearance and courteous demeanor.
- A sense of urgency for organization and quality work.
- Effective communication and teamwork, following directions from team leads and project managers.
- Assisting other technicians with installations as needed.
- Daily cleaning of tools and work areas, with weekly thorough cleaning.
- Familiarity with safety standards, construction site safety rules, PPE guidelines (hard hat, vest, steel-toe boots).
Scope of Responsibilities :Level 2
- Knowledge in installation, service, testing, and maintenance of equipment such as speakers, amplifiers, projectors, displays, etc.
- Ability to punch down/terminate all 66 and 110 blocks, including demarc lines, data blocks, CATV, and satellite systems.
- Installation of control systems, including uploading and downloading programming code.
- Understanding product connections and signal routing.
- Attention to detail and pride in quality installation.
- Ability to install and configure audio systems and video projection devices.
- Understanding different audio and video signal qualities.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to interpret product manuals.
- Aware of job-site issues and providing resolutions for project management.
- Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills.
- Constructing, installing, wiring, and labeling equipment racks.
- Reading plans for network, phone, TV, audio, video, and control systems.
- Organization and quality-focused work ethic.

Requirements
Skillsets and Core Competencies for Install Technicians
Install Technician
- Basic tools and access to a ladder.
- Knowledge of industry safety standards for working in commercial spaces.
- Cable terminations and testing (RJ45 with tester, XLR, 3.5mm, Coax).
- Experience with wall and ceiling mounting of displays, installation of speakers and microphones, and testing with tone generators.
- Ability to read wiring and signal flow diagrams.
Lead Technician
- All skills of Install Technician.
- Customer and IT personnel interface skills.
- Laptop with relevant programs for AV equipment configuration.
- Basic understanding of the OSI network model (Layers 1-3).
- Ability to configure AV equipment and perform rack wiring with proper techniques.
- Experience with red-line wiring and signal flow diagrams.
Certifications of Skills (preferred)
- CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D
- AVIXA certifications
- Manufacturer training (Biamp, Crestron, AMX, Cisco, Shure, Extron, Zoom, Polycom, etc.)
Tools, Connectors, and Supplies
Each technician should carry their own tools, including a 6ft ladder, CAT6 tester, crimper, tone generator, crimpers for DB9, stud finder, drill, drill bits, drywall saw, level, screwdrivers, box cutter, ratchet set, flashlight, measuring tape, cable stripper, nippers, and consumables like cable ties, velcro, screws. Each technician must bring their own ladder.
