Job Summary

The DC Power Installation Technician/Level 3 will have at least 2 years’ experience as a Level 2 Installation Technician in non-powered installations or equivalent. Under supervision of Level 4 Installation Technician or Installation Supervisor, run individual basic jobs as lead in-charge from start through completion and customer acceptance. Supervise activities of crews consisting of Level 1 & 2 installers. Report daily to Installation management and provide written daily job status with pictures to project management. Assist in training and developing Level 1 & 2 installers assigned by Installation Management. A major aspect of this position is to ensure the highest standards of quality and service.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to perform all the qualifications of a Level 2 Installation Technician.
  • Complete understanding of the standards for working on live power safely.
  • Perform daily pre-job tailgate safety/job meetings and document them.
  • Ability to analyze job specifications and drawing packages.
  • Ensure installation is completed on time and within budget.
  • Maintain a safe and hazard-free work area.
  • Meet all customer security requirements.
  • Establish and maintain professional rapport with customers, supervisors, and co-workers.
  • Provide job progress reports to supervisor on status, material shortages, customer complaints, and unsafe or inoperable tools.
  • Perform cable and installation testing prior to turnover to customer.
  • Manage and report daily crew time and expenses.
  • Prepare installation Method of Procedure (MOP) and conduct MOP meetings as required.
  • Manage job scope changes using Job Information Memorandum (JIM) procedures.
  • Resolve job specification and/or drawing issues with customer interface.
  • Ensure quality processes on the job and perform in-process quality audits.
  • Perform quality checklists and correct deficiencies prior to job completion.
  • Manage crew tool requirements and track assets.
  • Act as primary customer interface on site.
  • Supervise subcontractor work as needed.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance.
  • Operate equipment with supervision.
  • Lead and perform hot cuts during Maintenance Windows.
  • Perform basic AC and DC wiring installation.
  • Understand manufacturer specs and installation procedures.
  • Manage plant or equipment shutdowns and startups.
  • Perform battery removals and installations (new & replacements).
  • Complete ore-test and acceptance checklists.
  • Generate accurate testing reports (Midtronics/Fluke).
  • Attend UPS Factory Training on various brands.
  • Follow all safety requirements.
  • Work independently or as part of a team professionally.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Performance Measurements:

  • Performance scorecard covering safety, project completion, customer satisfaction, and issue resolution.
  • Management observations on attitude, diligence, teamwork, and learning ability.
  • Other metrics as prescribed by leadership, impacting customer and company outcomes.

Requirements

  • High School or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronics preferred or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years OEM experience or five years in DC power installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in a Central Office environment, including DC Power, Batteries, Power Plant, etc.
  • Certifications from common telecom manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of equipment, specs, and estimation experience.
  • Experience in telecom/cable industry including engineering and installation of systems and complex wiring.
  • Ability to pass background check and obtain TWIC card.
  • Ability to pass drug test; subject to random testing.
  • Basic AC/DC electrical/electronic knowledge.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and organize work.
  • Effective communication with diverse teams and customers.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments.
  • Extensive travel up to 80%.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to work overtime.

Additional Notes: Concentric technicians may need to travel out of state. DOT requirements for commercial drivers include age, licensing, medical certification, and adherence to HOS regulations. Must obtain CDL if driving vehicles over 26,000 lbs.

Physical Demands

Requires wearing PPE, carrying tools, manual handling, talking/hearing, walking, reaching, and occasionally lifting up to 100 lbs. Must maintain awareness of surroundings due to high voltage environment.

Work Environment

Work occurs in various settings like data centers, refineries, power plants, and telecom sites. Moderate activity, exposure to high voltage, and moderate noise levels are typical.
