Job Summary

The DC Power Installation Technician/Level 3 will have at least 2 years’ experience as a Level 2 Installation Technician in non-powered installations or equivalent. Under supervision of Level 4 Installation Technician or Installation Supervisor, run individual basic job as lead in-charge from start through completion and customer acceptance. Supervise the activities of crews consisting of Level 1 & 2 installers. Report daily to Installation management and provide written daily job status with pictures to project management. Assist in the training and development of Level 1 & 2 installers assigned by Installation Management. A major aspect of this position is to ensure the highest standards of quality and service.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to perform all the qualifications of a Level 2 Installation Technician.
  • Complete understanding of the standard for working on live power safely.
  • Perform daily pre-job tail-gate safety/job meetings and document.
  • Ability to analyze job specifications and drawing packages.
  • Assure installation is completed on time and within budget.
  • Maintain a safe and hazard-free work area.
  • Meet all customer security requirements.
  • Establish and maintain a professional rapport with Customers, Supervisor, and Co-workers.
  • Provide job progress reports to supervisor on status of job, material shortages, customer complaints, and unsafe or inoperable tools.
  • Perform any required cable and installation testing prior to turnover to customer.
  • Manage and report daily crew time and expense on job.
  • Prepare installation Method of Procedure (MOP) and conduct MOP meeting as required by customer.
  • Manage job scope of work changed using Job Information Memorandum (JIM) procedure, or the customer JIM procedure.
  • Resolve job specification and/or drawing issues with customer interface.
  • Responsible for quality processes on job and performing in-process quality audits.
  • Perform quality checklist and correct any quality deficiencies prior to job completion.
  • Responsible for managing crew tool requirements and tracking tool assets.
  • Act as primary customer interface on job site.
  • Ability to supervise subcontractor work.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance.
  • Perform operations on working equipment with appropriate supervision.
  • Lead and perform hot cuts during Maintenance Windows.
  • Perform basic AC and DC wiring installation.
  • Understand manufacturer specs and installation procedures of equipment for job.
  • Bring a plant or equipment down or back up as needed.
  • Perform battery removals and installations (new & replacements).
  • Perform ore-test and acceptance checklist prior to job completion.
  • Perform accurate Midtronics/Fluke and other testing reports.
  • UPS Factory Training on Powerware, Liebert, APC, MGE, etc.
  • Work safely and follow all safety requirements.
  • Work independently or with a team in a professional manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School or GED diploma required. Prefer an associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronics or strong equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2 years OEM experience or five years of progressively difficult experience in DC power installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • At least five years of related experience in a Central Office environment, including Power Plant and batteries.
  • Common Telecom Manufacturer certifications.
  • Knowledge of equipment, specifications, estimation experience.
  • Experience in telecom and/or cable industries, including engineering and installation of Ironwork, DC Power, Batteries, etc.
  • Must pass background check and obtain TWIC card.
  • Must pass drug test; subject to random testing.
  • Basic AC/DC electrical/electronic knowledge.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to organize and work independently.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and across remote locations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop strong customer relationships.
  • Collaborative team player.
  • Adaptability to changing environments.
  • Extensive travel up to 80% required.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings or weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to work overtime.

Concentric technicians may need to travel out of state. DOT requirements for drivers of vehicles under 26,001 lbs. include:

  • Minimum age: 18 for intrastate, 21 for interstate.
  • Valid driver’s license and medical card.
  • Compliance with DOT HOS regulations.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL for vehicles over 26,000 lbs.

Physical Demands

Employees must wear PPE, carry tools, and use hands frequently. Regular walking, reaching, and occasional lifting of up to 100 lbs are required. Must maintain awareness of surroundings due to high voltage environment.

Work Environment

Work occurs in various locations including data centers, refineries, and telecom sites. Exposure to high voltage power is common. Noise levels are moderate. Accommodations may be made for disabilities.
