Title: Installation Technician

Reporting To: Service Manager

Employment Classification: Non-exempt / hourly

General Summary

The Installation Technician (I.T.) lives VIP’s mission to EARN AUTOMOTIVE CUSTOMERS FOR LIFE by learning and living the VIP culture and following VIP processes to ensure that customers get a different & better experience. An I.T. must work effectively and safely to ensure good communication, teamwork, and operation in serving customers. The I.T. is responsible for effective repair and replacement of automotive tires, parts, fluids, and accessories and ensuring these services are done right the first time. An I.T. is expected to comply with company safety, loss prevention, and customer service programs as well as established policies and procedures and municipal, state, and federal regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Prioritize workplace safety by following all safety policies, completing safety training, locking out unsafe equipment, and reporting unsafe conditions.
• Provide automotive repair and maintenance services, including Tire Services, Oil Changes, Under hood Services, Multi-point Vehicle Inspections, Wheel Alignments, and Preventive Maintenance.
• Ensure a valid Service Work Order is initiated before service and visibly displayed during service.
• Complete MPI and actively support the 5-for-5 Customer Engagement Process.
• Ensure completion and return of all service documentation and vehicle keys.
• Obtain parts from authorized personnel and return unused parts appropriately.
• Handle cores, batteries, and tires according to security protocols.
• Maintain a minimum productivity rate of 50% over a 16-week period.
• Follow VIP’s quality service policies to perform work according to standards.
• Complete all required training and certifications.
• Participate in additional training, including becoming a Licensed State Vehicle Inspector, T.I.A. certified, and ASE certified in G1, A4, A5.
• Support and deliver the 5-for-5 process to educate customers about their vehicle’s condition.
• Attend meetings and training sessions as needed.
• Perform vehicle road tests post-service for safety and satisfaction.
• Secure and lock vehicles upon completion.
• Install covers and mats before entering customer vehicles.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area and equipment.
• Participate in shop maintenance and safety programs.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and hazardous waste disposal regulations.
• Maintain technical capabilities and ASE certification status.
• Review and authorize time and attendance records daily.
• Adhere to company culture and service standards, participate in team meetings, and ensure shop equipment safety.
• Ensure facility and equipment maintenance and proper disposal of hazardous waste.
• Enforce strict compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.

Performance Measurement

• Maintain at least 50% productivity (Billed Hours / Worked Hours).
• Minimize rework by ensuring quality work the first time.

Standard Work Week

• Typically 5 days, 40 hours per week.
• Arrive before shift start, be ready, and work scheduled hours.

Required Qualifications

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical instructions and regulations.
• Effective communication skills to explain vehicle issues and solutions.
• Diagnose and recommend automotive repairs.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Minimum of 1 year of automotive service experience or equivalent education.
• Valid driver’s license.
• ASE certifications in G1, A4, A5, and State Inspection License preferred.

Work Environment

Indoor service department with exposure to weather, noise, and chemicals. Protective eyewear required.

Physical Demands

Includes sitting, reaching, standing, pushing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crawling, lifting up to 21 lbs., and exerting force. Accommodations available as needed.
