Job summary

The Fessenden School in West Newton, MA seeks a creative, reflective Grade 5 English teacher (long-term substitute) to teach four Grade 5 English classes from January 4, 2027 through June 15, 2027. You will inspire a love of reading and writing while supporting boys’ academic growth, character development, and identity formation.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree and ability to create a student-centered, rigorous classroom.
• Strong communication skills and commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Experience with middle school or upper elementary students and project-based learning is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Teach Grade 5 English, literature, writing, grammar, and discussion-based analysis.
• Foster an inclusive classroom that supports boys’ academic and character development.
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learners’ needs.
• Collaborate across grades, departments, and student support services.
• Mentor a small group of students and participate in school life.
