Job summary

NYC Parks is seeking a City Park Worker to support inspections of parks, playgrounds, and recreation facilities in Manhattan and across the five boroughs. Under supervision, you will use handheld devices and GIS to document park assets and conditions, then prepare reports with Microsoft Office tools.

Qualifications emphasize a valid NY driver's license, the ability to follow orders, and physical readiness for outdoor work in all seasons. Residency rules apply for certain candidates.

Job description

ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES NYC Parks is the steward of over 30,000 acres of land – 14% of New York City – comprised of athletic fields, playgrounds, basketball courts, pools, recreation facilities, golf courses, beaches and large natural areas. Operations and Management Planning (OMP) conducts inspections, audits and assessments of a wide range of Agency operations, performs analysis and present findings to management to measure Agency performance and improve services.

Major Responsibilities

• Under close supervision, inspect parks and playgrounds, public restrooms, recreation centers and golf courses using a handheld computer and digital camera.
• Utilize knowledge and apply standards for various inspection programs.
• Locate and drive to inspection sites throughout the five boroughs.
• Employ Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to map park features.
• Produce inspection reports using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Participate in special projects as needed.

Appointees to this position will receive an assignment differential of $4,897 in addition to their base salary.

Minimum Qualifications

• A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York is required.
• Ability to read and to understand and obey orders is required.
• There are certain medical and physical requirements.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with the Parks Inspection Program standards.
• Ability to read maps and navigate the five boroughs of New York City.
• Excellent interpersonal, writing and oral communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize and be flexible in order to meet strict deadlines.
• Willing to work outdoors in all seasons.
• Knowledge of Microsoft 365.
• Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement
