Job summary

Heartland Family Service seeks a dedicated wellness coach to support InSHAPE participants in Omaha. The role focuses on developing personal wellness plans, providing education on fitness, nutrition, and overall wellbeing, and motivating clients in both group and individual settings.

You will train volunteers, lead activities, and track progress while collaborating with staff to promote healthy lifestyles and family resilience.

Qualifications

• Personal Trainer certification required.
• CPR and First Aid certifications preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Health Science, Social Work, Rehabilitation, Psychology, Health Promotion or related field.
• Ability to perform exercises and movements as demonstrations for clients.
• Physically active with belief in the holistic benefits of good health.
• Commitment to reducing health disparities and social stigma for individuals with mental illness.
• Willing to work approximately 10:00am-6:30pm daily.

Responsibilities

• Provides community and residential-based support to implement participant health goals.
• Manages a caseload of approximately 10-20 clients to establish and implement InSHAPE plans.
• Collaborates with clients, program staff and the InSHAPE Lead to promote stable sobriety and maternal bonding.
• Provides fitness training, monitoring, and ongoing reassessment of exercise, nutrition and healthcare commitments.
• Assists in creating healthy meal plans, weekly grocery orders, and cooking dinners with participants.
• Teaches cooking skills and health-focused recipes to participants.
• Educates participants about healthy, food-related parenting practices.
• Provides transportation to and from the YMCA for exercise groups.
• Demonstrates safe exercises for gym, home, or community settings.
• Fosters peer relationships among participants and participates in activities when needed.
• Encourages member participation and movement along wellness lifestyle changes.
• Administers fitness assessments and records progress.
• Tracks and documents member participation for program outcomes.
• Works with clients, volunteers, and community partners to increase independence.
• Delivers group activity instruction and supports wellness networks outside of InSHAPE and Family Works programs.
