Job summary

University of California - Irvine Health seeks a Nurse Practitioner I in the Department of Surgery to deliver expert inpatient care across general surgery and the surgical ICU, under supervision. You will assess patients, plan care, and participate in shift handoffs with surgical teams.

The role includes coordinating procedures, triaging calls, reviewing labs, and providing multidisciplinary care in collaboration with physicians, residents and staff.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Windows and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Quest, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Privileges prior to hire.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.
• Ability to communicate medical information clearly to diverse people, in person and by phone.

Responsibilities

• Assess health needs and plan, evaluate care for general surgery and surgical ICU patients.
• Participate in inpatient sign-out at shift start and end.
• Follow up with General Surgery teams and attending physicians.
• Involvement in trauma resuscitations and surgical consultations.
• Review critical labs, obtain histories, perform exams, document, and coordinate care.
