Job summary

UC Irvine in Orange, CA seeks a Nurse Practitioner I in the Department of Surgery to manage inpatient care across Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. The NP will assess health needs, coordinate care, draft orders, and participate in rounds and sign-outs with surgical teams.

Requirements include CA RN and NP licenses, furnishing license, DEA, NPI, board certification AGACNP-BC/ACNPC-AG, and BLS/ACLS/PALS; ATLS within six months. Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese preferred.

Qualifications

Knowledge of Windows and MS Office applications.
Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.
Ability to exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers.
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
Skill to clearly communicate medical information to a broad variety of people, both in person and over the telephone.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Writing clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes; maintain workload pace.
Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures.
Adhere to privacy, confidentiality, and PHI security policies.

Responsibilities

The NP will manage inpatient care for the Surgery division including Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
Participate in inpatient sign-out at shift start/end and follow-up with surgical teams.
Review labs, obtain histories, perform exams, and coordinate multidisciplinary care.
Discharge patients with summaries, instructions, and meds; triage calls as needed.
Provide multi-disciplinary care coordination and education under supervision of the Chief of Trauma, Burns, and Critical Care Services.
