Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for the Inpatient Pharmacy in Hyde Park. You will prepare medications under pharmacist supervision, rotate through all work areas, and ensure timely distribution of medications while maintaining compliance with policies.

Requirements include an Illinois license, a high school diploma, and at least one year of pharmacy experience or completion of an ASHP course.

Qualifications

• Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician License.
• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Minimum of one year pharmacy experience, or completion of an ASHP approved technician course, or student enrolled in a college of pharmacy.
• Ability to work as a team player to provide optimal patient care.
• Good communication skills to interact with patients and staff.
• Considerable knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures.
• Successful completion of core technician competencies and annual competencies.
• Familiar with computers and keyboard usage.

Responsibilities

• Transports medications and supplies to nursing units and clinics; restocks Omnicell machines; returns outdated medications.
• Replaces CPR cart medications and transfers patient-specific meds during unit transfers.
• Rotates through all pharmacy areas; assists with inventory, inspections, and workflow; handles calls.
• Triages phone communications and collects quality assurance data; supports pharmacist when needed.
• Prepares medications and supplies for dispensing under pharmacist supervision; prepares unit dose syringes, IV admixtures, and pediatric IVs.
• Prepares inventories, orders drugs and supplies; receives drugs and stocks shelves.
