Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I for the Worcester campus. The role provides patient care under licensed supervision, with duties including vital signs, EKGs, POC testing, and help with daily activities. Strong English communication and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school education or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support.
• Demonstrated competency in the PCT I level with 800 hours and 6 months in inpatient/outpatient care.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Medical terminology knowledge.
• Basic computer skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to gather information and build relationships.
• Must have problem-solving abilities and stay calm under stress.

Responsibilities

• Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding patient observations and changes.
• Maintains constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse.
• Assists in safe environment creation and uses de-escalation techniques as directed.
• Assists patients with daily living activities and mobility.
• Performs vital signs, measures height/weight, and records data.
• Performs EKGs, POC tests, bladder scanning, and collects specimens for lab.
