Job summary

Marshall County Hospital District seeks a Certified Inpatient/Outpatient Coder to assign ICD-10 and CPT codes for all inpatient discharges and outpatient records in a timely, accurate manner.

You will ensure proper abstraction in CPSI within seven days, correctly sequenced codes, DRG calculations for Medicare discharges, and accurate discharge dispositions. Collaboration with physicians and the Medical Records Director is essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and computer/typing skills.
• Experience is preferred but not required.
• Ability to decipher physician and nurse orders.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10 diagnosis and CPT codes for Inpatient Discharges and Outpatient records using the 3M Code-finder in a timely manner.
• Ensure patient information is correctly abstracted in CPSI within seven days of discharge.
• Enter and sequence ICD-10-CM diagnosis and procedure codes; indicate dates and physician.
• Calculate DRGs for Medicare Inpatient discharges.
• Ensure Discharge Disposition and Admission type codes are correct.
• Enter physicians with attending listed first and others after; maintain accuracy.
• Assemble Deficiencies charts per hospital guidelines.
• Assist Medical Records Director and communicate problems affecting coding.
• Inform Director of Medical Records about concerns impacting coding process.
