Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Coding Specialist to perform thorough chart reviews, abstract data, and assign ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures. This role helps reduce accounts receivable days and supports accurate coding across clinical documentation.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School / GED.
• 1 year in Hospital coding.
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) OR Certified In-patient Professional Coder (CIC).
• REQUIRED Familiarity with medical terminology Strong data entry skills An understanding of computer applications Ability to work with members of the health care team.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine appropriate ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters data into designated system.
• Ensures efficient management of medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding.
• Keeps informed of ICD guideline updates and implements them in daily work.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
