Job summary

Acentra Health is seeking a Medical Coder to review inpatient medical records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and clinical validity of diagnoses and procedures. You will evaluate coding accuracy, DRG assignment, reimbursement impact, and regulatory compliance per CMS and payer policies in a hospital inpatient setting.

Responsibilities include validating MS-DRG assignments, applying CMS guidelines, and documenting audit findings while maintaining HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of 2 years of progressive hands-on inpatient coding or related healthcare documentation experience.
• Active certification(s) such as CCS/CCA/CDIP; CPMA/CRC/CIC/CDEI; CCDS.
• Proficiency in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.
• Strong knowledge of inpatient coding guidelines and DRG reimbursement.
• Experience reviewing inpatient medical records and MS-DRG assignments.
• Familiarity with coding software, encoder/grouper tools, and EHRs.
• Strong analytical and detail-oriented skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Code inpatient diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM/PCS.
• Validate MS-DRG assignments based on documentation and guidelines.
• Assess medical necessity and CMS/payor regulations.
• Identify and communicate coding discrepancies and risks.
• Abstract and compile audit data for reimbursement/compliance.
• Utilize coding software and EHR systems to complete reviews.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidential handling of records.
• Provide backup support for related administrative tasks if needed.
