Job summary

NKC Health seeks an HIM Facility Coder to maintain clinical databases, code and abstract medical records, and ensure accurate CPT/ICD-10/HCPCS coding per guidelines. The role collaborates with Revenue Integrity and Patient Financial Services to resolve edits and improve claim processing.

The candidate will respond to educational feedback, meet production standards, and stay current on documentation practices to maximize coding specificity. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of facility medical coding and/or billing experience preferred.
• Proficient knowledge of 3M and Oracle Cerner preferred.
• Working knowledge of Official Coding Guidelines and CMS guidelines.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, compliance and reimbursement guidelines.
• Proficient computer skills, including Excel.
• Ability to learn and adapt to new software systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain clinical databases through coding and abstracting of medical records.
• Assign CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS codes in accordance with Official Coding Guidelines, CMS guidelines and internal policies.
• Collaborate with Revenue Integrity and Patient Financial Services to resolve edits and verify code accuracy.
• Respond to educational feedback identified by Coding Compliance and Education.
• Maintain knowledge of medical record and provider documentation to maximize coding specificity with query opportunities.
