Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the 60% Day shift on the Downtown Campus. Under supervision, you will assist the nursing team across in-patient and outpatient care areas, delivering hands-on patient support and ensuring comfort and safety.

Key duties include taking vital signs, assisting with basic procedures, helping with admissions and transfers, maintaining clean spaces, and communicating patient information to the nursing staff.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.
• Ability to protect patient confidentiality.
• Ability to collect patient data and maintain records.
• Knowledge of sanitation and health hazards.
• Ability to work effectively with patients, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Perform phlebotomy, IV removal, and Foley catheter removal as directed.
• Assist with diagnostic and therapeutic tasks—enemas, dressing changes, specimen collection.
• Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Assist with personal hygiene, comfort, and mobility.
• Transport patients and supplies and stock rooms.
• Support nursing conferences and report patient information.
• Maintain equipment and keep the unit clean and organized.
